THE KIWANIAN

March 15, 2006

We began with Dano and Paul leading the patriotic song, sans Doris, ouch!!! Rosa led the pledge and Greg invocated.

Our guests today were Rosa from Circle K and Anna’s friends Jan and Tommie.

We sang? Happy 20th Anniversary to Carol and Key and Happy Birthday to the adorable Howie Seeb, don’t you just want to pinch those cute little cheeks?

We had the honor to install Cedric ‘Mickey’ McRae today and he volunteered to help anybody do anything… the clamor to enlist him was deafening. We welcome you Mickey!

Mike Miller was elected to be Vice President even though he was not in attendance. The moral to this story is ‘if you’re not here, you are volunteered to what ever comes up that day’ so you’d better show up!

Dee Prescott from Easter Seals dropped by to thank us for remodeling their rooms and for the annual Christmas party and to let us know they applied for a Micro Enterprises grant to help disabled people own their own businesses.

Total K Day was a total success. The hall looks spic ‘n span and valley park never looked cleaner.

At the last board meeting it was decided to give Happy Hats $500 and to donate to the scholarship fund in Jim Fucille’s name.

Bruce performed a magic trick and pulled the president’s gavel from his pants, which he then raffled off to Pat as a collectable relic for $25. Pat graciously gave it to Terry.

Carol was given a check from Hilda and Commercial Capital Bank for $617.27 from people designating Kiwanis as their favorite charity when they open a new account.

Paul Lawson announced (via Bob since Paul wasn’t here either) that the Red Cross blood mobile will be at St Cross Saturday from 8:00-2:00. Stop by and donate.

HAPPY/SAD $: Howie happy Rosa is here, happy for recent orientations of new members, and happy/sad he attended a Rotary event at Comedy & Magic Club and found they refer to us as Kiwineians

Nick happy total K day went so well, the hi-light being watching Greg W up a ladder washing windows while everyone else took a break

Rick K happy the tear down next door is finished and Savannah now has her own dog park, happy sister city donated a second ambulance to Loreto who has the only 3 paramedics in Baja trained by our own HBFD and that Joe was honored as starting our sister city program

Cathy happy about the ambulance and that Shea is finished with training and is officially one of the guys

Whit is just happy

Dallas happy Dorothy is walking and driving

Mickey happy to be part of club and thanks Bob, Judi and Terry

Linda happy Dallas was not being sarcastic about Dorothy

Pat happy about the ambulance and that the paramedics were able to save Dr Collins’s life

Carol happy for the donation from Hilda and for 20 years of wedded bliss with Key

Bob happy Mickey is a member and that Judi is able to be here

Judi sad to have spent Mon. in the hospital happy to not have a recurrence of last year’s illness

Terry happy Mickey joined and that the club survived Pat running the meeting last week

SPEAKER: Nancy Wise-Anderson from the Wellness Community joined us today. The Wellness Community was formed 21 years ago in Santa Monica by a Dr who’s wife had breast cancer and has been in RB for 19 years with 3 paid employees and l00 volunteers. There are now 22 locations in the US and 1 in Israel and 1 in Japan. The group provides social and psychological care and support to cancer patients and their families. For those of you who weren’t there, see what you missed. We dined on corned beef and cabbage with cupcakes for dessert

RAFFLE: Today’s pot of gold was $35 and the joker was worth $315 with only 9 cards left. Carol won the drawing and drew the jack of clubs. Oh well, happy anniversary Carol
